The Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) and the OPC Foundation Open Platform Communications - Unified Architecture (OPC UA) are commonly considered as two of the most relevant technologies for data and information management in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

View the Slideshare presentation below to discover how the two technologies compare and what their applicability really is. The presentation will (1) explain the key concepts behind DDS and OPC UA and relate them to the reasons why these technologies were created in the first place, (2) clarify the differences and applicability in IIoT for DDS and OPC UA, and (3) report on the ongoing standardization activities that are looking at DDS / OPC UA inter-working.

Our CTO, Angelo Corsaro, recently compared the two technologies in his article A Tale of Two Industrial IoT Standards: DDS and OPC UA at RTInsights.

Vortex DDS provides the leading (commercial and open source) implementation of the DDS standard.
